This week at "I am the Diva Challenge 312" we were ask to use spills, stains, drips... with any liquid like coffee, tea, wine, liquid paints, etc. on our tiles.
I created two tiles. For the first one I used a leftover tile I had from a previous project where I cover all the background with "Distress Inks" and then I sprayed on top some water. Distress Inks react with water making marks and discolorations. I thought the stains looked very much like water bubbles over the blue ink so I decided to follow that lead creating with zentangles some kind of jelly fish or sea creatures. Here is the end result.
For the Second Tile I scatter some coffee drops over watercolor paper. Once the drops dried they looked to me like cells and antibodies and for some reason the "Hollibaugh" tangle have always made me think in nerves with blood cells, so I decided to use Hollibaugh all over the tile. My original thought was to add black in the background but after trying to add on the coffee drops gel pen for highlights I realized the coffee stains had some kind of glossy finish so the gel pen was not working correctly neither color pencils! Probably black markers would have the same problem specially because there were a lot of tiny drops everywhere that are difficult to see on the image. Mine was a Cappuccino coffee, I wonder if regular coffee creates a glossy finish as well ;-)
Anyway, change of plans and in order to create more drama I added some color to the Holllibaugh strings and some purple "cells".
This was a fun challenge, pushing me out of my comfort zone and a little bit of experimenting. Now I know not to use Cappuccino stains in the future! ;-)
I hope you like them and come and visit often. As always if there is anything from this post that you would like to try in your own work, please feel free to do so. - CraftyGirl Comments are closed.
