For this week in Adele's Bruno "It's a String Thing" Challenge #184 we had to use the new Zentangle pattern"Way Bop" by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Way Bop is an interesting new pattern, a little bit tricky at the beginning but after some practice I got the general idea, and was happy with the end result.
I was so concentrated in getting the steps right that I completely forgot that Adele's String had 8 "seed" shapes and mine had 6...oops! (good that she said it was just a suggestion and we could use more or less seeds!)
The day before I read Adele's post I watch a movie that showed many Viking carvings. I kept admiring them and thinking it would be nice to be able to draw them. Then when I saw "Way Bop" I could see the "Celtic" resemblance with the connecting circles/hearts... isn't it funny how things happen sometimes? what a coincidence, this challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to try to recreate Viking symbols on carved wood! For the outside circle I simply started drawing random long swirls and then added some triangles in the empty areas. In this tile I used micron in sepia, and shaded with Prismacolor colored pencils in Sepia, Dark Brown, Sienna brown, Burnt Ochre and Beige and some white chalk pencil for highlights.
I hope you liked it, and as always if there is anything from this post that you would like to try yourself in your own work, please feel free to do so.
