Tile for "It's a String Thing" Challenge #185

2/24/2017

For this week's challenge at Adele's Bruno It's a String Thing  we had a  4 line string and three "border" patterns to use: "Flec" by Ragged Ray, "Wibble" by Shawna Martin and "Edgar" by Jody Genovese.
this was a very stimulating and fun challenge as all three patterns were new to me and I normally don't use border patterns a lot. Here is my take on it.

For this tile I used black and brown micron markers, "Burnt Ochre", "Peach" and "Aquamarine" Prismacolor colored pencils, white gel pen and graphite for shading.

Something very interesting happened with this tile. As I said before I normally don't use "border" patterns, and all of the patterns for this challenge belong in this category, so from the very beginning I was out of my comfort zone.  After I draw the three patterns inside the string lines I still didn't like how my tile was looking and for a moment I thought of simply starting a new one, but then I remember how in Zentangle there are no mistakes and if we keep going it might turn out alright at the end.  So, I continue filling the tile adding "Flec" with a black background (which is also out norm for me) and the tile changed completely, into a vibrant dramatic and happy tile. Here is when what I call "Zantangle Touch of Light" happened. That's how a call those quiet moments while we are tangling, when it is like if we get touch by pure light and we are able to see a new point of view , a different perspective and reflect and grow.

How many times we dismiss a pattern right away just to find out latter  with surprise that it had so much beauty and potential? How many times we dismiss new people we meet or new situations that come around before we even give them a chance?
Next time let's stick around a bit longer.... the results might surprise us!
My thanks to Adele for her challenge and all the pattern contributors, with their help we expand our horizons...and fly.

As always if there is anything from this post that you would like to use in your own work, please feel free to do so.

I hope you enjoyed this post and come back often!
